Some seriously nasty homework may be on its way, but so is the help you need. In the Peer Homework Help Club, a small group of teens -- led by a certified teacher -- will spend one afternoon a week helping struggling high schoolers stay on top of their assignments.
A free service, the club meets on Tuesdays from Sept. 20 to Dec. 6 in the Nancy Bennett Room at the Poirier branch. Meetings run from 4:00 till 5:30 p.m.
Volunteers earn community service hours. To become a tutor in the club, you must be in grade 11 or 12 and an excellent student in one or more subject areas. Apply by contacting Chris at cmiller@library.coquitlam.bc.ca or calling 604-937-4140 ext. 208.
Anyone in grade 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 may come for assistance. Subjects covered include math, English, science and social studies. Please bring your assignments / schoolwork with you! If you have homework in another subject, please contact Chris (e-mail and phone number above) to see if a tutor can help. If you need homework assistance, but are in a lower grade, please see the details for our original Homework Help Club.
The program is a partnership between Coquitlam Public Library and Coquitlam Parks, Recreation and Culture Services.
