Teen Volunteers at the Library

Teenagers have a few volunteering options at Coquitlam Public Library:

link to Reading BuddiesTeens in Grades 9 through 12 (high school) can join the library's
Reading Buddies program, which runs three times per year (Oct/Nov; Feb/March; July). In the paired reading program, teens meet kids at the library to read books aloud. Volunteers earn 1.5 community service hours per meeting.

link to Homework HelpTeens in Grades 9 through 12 (high school) can join the library's Homework Help Club, which runs two or three times during the school year (Sep/Nov; March/Apr.; sometimes a session in-between). In the one-on-one tutoring program, teens earn 45 minutes towards your community service requirements per meeting.

Teens in Grades 6 through 12 (middle school or high school) can join the library's Teen Advisory Council, which meets monthly at the City Centre branch during the school year. Members help plan activities, programs and services for teens. They earn 1.0 hour per meeting, and are eligible to volunteer at special events to earn additional hours.

Teens in Grades 9 through 12 (high school) can join the library's French homework and conversation club: Parlez-Nous Francais. While active, the club meets weekly. Volunteers -- who should be French Immersion students, or experienced French speakers -- earn 45 minutes of community service time per meeting.

Registration is required for all these programs. For more information about them, please click on the links to the program pages.

Library regulations restrict ALL OTHER TYPES of volunteerism, except for community fund-raising, which is handled by the Friends of the Library. We appreciate your willingness to help, but we're sorry: NO ONE can volunteer to shelve books or sort returns. However, if you're interested in doing those things and would like to earn money instead of volunteer hours, please check out our employment section, or ask at the library about applying to work as a page. You must be 16 years old and must have completed Grade 10.
