Interlibrary Loans

If the item you want is not in the Coquitlam Public Library catalogue, try the provincial interlibrary loan system, Outlook Online.  Through this database of over 3 million records and 7 million items, you can look for materials in nearly all the province’s public, college and institute libraries.  You can then request most books, microfilms or photocopies of magazine articles to be sent to your home library.

There are certain types of material that may NOT be requested through interlibrary loan:

  • Books published in the last 12 months
  • Circulating material already owned by Coquitlam Public Library
  • Audiovisual material, such as DVDs, CD-Roms, music or books on CD, books on cassette or videocassettes
  • Magazines (but photocopies can be ordered for individual articles)
  • Reference material

A limit of 25 loans per year will be allowed free of charge, with a limit of 5 in process at any one time.  Patrons will be charged $8.00 for each request above the annual limit.

Please note that in order to pick up your interlibrary loan, you must have the library card of the person who placed it.  Please advise us of your preferred pick up location when placing your request.

Interlibrary loans must be returned to either the Poirier or City Centre branch of Coquitlam Public Library, and we ask that the pink paper band and pink barcode card be attached to the material when returned.

    How to Use Outlook Online

Always check the Coquitlam Public Library Catalogue first.  If you cannot find the item there, then check Outlook Online.  You don't need to enter your library card number or password on the login screen, just click on

    Click on Outlook Online

The search page will appear.  Search for the item by typing in keywords or by using the Browse search.   A list of results will appear; click on the item that you wish to place on interlibrary loan.

A detailed record will appear.  On the right of the screen, click on Request this item.

On the ILL Request Form, fill in your name (lastname, firstname), password (last four digits of your telephone number), your library barcode, and either your telephone number, fax number or email address.   At the pickup location box, select either the Poirier or Citycentre branch.

    Lastly, click on Submit.
Your request will automatically be sent to the desktop of our Interlibrary Loans Clerk, who will process the request.  The library that owns the item will send it to the Coquitlam Public Library for you, to be picked up at the selected branch.

For further help on how to use the system, pick up a brochure in the library or access the Outlook Online help guide.  You may also call the Information Desk at either Branch:

    Poirier                       604-937-4144
    City Centre                604-927-3560

You may track your own ILLs through the patron menu of the system (you must have the password you used when you placed the request) or call the ILL Clerk, weekdays between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM, at 604-937-4140.
